Once you have found the best decking oil for merbau to oil your wooden deck, you should maintain a regular schedule of oiling and sealing the deck every six to twelve months to help maintain your woods lifespan and to ensure that your deck looks its best year-round.

Maintenance means to guarantee durability, you are best off oiling and sealing the deck at least once every eight to twelve months.

best decking oil

For that, you can use our Deck Cleaner to clean your decking and bring your wood back to it is original color. If you deck has any signs of the old finish still present on the surface, you may want to skip the cleaning process and just smooth out any old finish, then apply your deck with the best product for deck protection which is a new decking oil.

You will want to find out which oils are used on the decking then you will want to clean the entire deck using deck cleaner. Once the decking is fully dry, you can apply a layer of the oil on sections of decking boards that are exposed to the elements.

You just have to brush off the deck prior to applying oil, or apply extra coats after oil has covered the area of your deck.

Now, anytime you are cleaning, if the weather is getting better on your deck, you will be applying the coat of oil. You would have to keep the decking maintained, washing it regularly and scrubbing it down so that the oil stays put.

To maintain the protection of your deck, you will need to reapply oil on a periodic basis. Once your deck is fully dry, cover all surfaces that you want protected with duct tape once you have applied oil.

Use a paint brush to spread generous amounts of oil directly onto your decking. Beware: As some new decking has been pre-treated or stained, and that coating would have to be removed using Decking Cleaner before applying the one we are selling, because it would not soak in properly.

Our oil contains UV filters, so will protect from sun damage, and prevent your decking from turning gray and faded. Using one of our products to treat the decking at least once per year will keep the wood from drying out and splitting, extending its lifespan.

We highly recommend having your staining done by professionals too, because it will make sure that your expensive deck is being properly protected. A quality oil to consider for your wood deck is one that is easy to apply, water-resistant, resistant to mold and mildew, and offers UV protection to prevent sun damage to your wood.

Deck oils do more than just add a subtle tint of color to your wood deck, which enhances its natural beauty, they will also help to protect it from rain, sunlight and mold.

Of course, as our guide shows, decking oil may have added properties like UV protection or anti-slip effects, but the main goal of a decking oil is to penetrate deeply into your wood and protect it from extreme weather. Decking oils work deep into the grain of the surface to protect it from within, thereby insulating and replacing natural oils and resins which decking will slowly lose over time.

While the weather and other outside factors may dull your wood decks natural color over time, this oil-based decking product has been developed to counteract that, adding your chosen coloured tone to the woods natural look.

Essentially, what separates oils from stains is that a stain will enhance your decks look, changing the color of your timber; whereas, an oil will reinforce your current color, should you wish to keep your wood the way it is.

In short, if you are looking to give your boards a bit of color, staining for decking offers the broadest array of shades, with both full-bodied and semi-transparent finishes, whereas oil for decking is best if you are looking for a colorless treatment that soaks into the wood to protect it from the inside out, instead of creating a layer over top.
